Check out eight reasons why Rochester, MN is your youth event headquarters:

    1. Experience with kids and teens. “Rochester hosts a lot of youth events so there’s familiarity with our demographic,” says Amy Cummings, Executive Director of Partnership for Youth, which hosts an annual faith-based convention of 1,600 high school-age kids from across the Midwest at Mayo Civic Center.Partnership for Youth arena main session

    1. Skyway access. Cummings also appreciates that Mayo Civic Center is connected by skyways to downtown hotelsrestaurants, and shopping, so teens don’t have to cross streets or walk outside through Minnesota’s rain, snow, or ice.

    1. Accommodating hotels. Rochester offers “a lot of hotels to choose from with a variety of price points,” according to Cummings, and her organization’s group leaders like staying in hotels rather than college dorms. Adds Jay Gunnarson, Assistant Director of Sales for Experience Rochester MN: “An important factor for a lot of youth events is to try to get four people per room. The hotels that partner with us go out of their way to offer dedicated double-double rooms.”

    1. Flexible, modern venues. An expansion of Mayo Civic Center in 2017 doubled the size of the facility, which now boasts a ballroom that can seat 3,700 and 26 meetings rooms. “The Mayo Civic Center addition has given us a better selection of rooms,” Cummings notes.

    1. Easy Access to Food. To satisfy always-hungry teens and kids, Mayo Civic Center provides onsite concessions that are popular for all conventions and events, but especially for youth-related events. In addition, there are dozens of restaurants and a great food court within easy walking distance of center, Gunnarson says.

    1. Convenient parking for large vehicles. One group that has been coming to Mayo Civic Center for several years is the Minnesota Law Enforcement Explorer Association, which brings more than 1,000 youth and chaperones to town. “They come in large vehicles, and we work to find affordable flat-lot parking very nearby,” says Gunnarson of Experience Rochester. “It’s very convenient for the drivers.” law enforcement 2

    1. Fun off-site activities. Experience Rochester staff provide assistance in organizing exciting off-site activities for youth, including laser tag, bowling and arcade games at nearby Bowlocity, indoor climbing at Roca, bouncing on trampolines at Air Insanity, or discovering nature at Cascade Meadows. There are many lively, active things to do for teens and kids in Rochester, MN.

    1. Finally: the people! “We love working with the teams at Mayo Civic Center and Experience Rochester! The people and relationships make all the difference,” says Cummings. “The custodial staff is excellent. Everything is always clean and they are always willing to help.”
